The Hong Kong Safety Training Association (HKSTA), established in 2000, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Origin Production Limited. It aims to provide safety training and information to the workers from all industries to raise their safety awareness in order to reduce the number of accidents and develop the safety culture in Hong Kong.

With the development of infrastructures such as West Rail, Ma On Shan Rail, MTR Tsueng Kwan O Extension, and sewage collection tunnels under the Strategic Sewage Disposal Scheme in Hong Kong, there are many tunnel works in the recent years. Working in this so-called "Confined Space" is risky and may cause many accidents with injuries, fatalities and property loss if the workers do not have adequate safety training. To raise the safety awareness of the confined space workers, HKSTA has provided confined space safety training and issued certificate to the workers since 2000. To provide the equal opportunity in education for the ignored workforce, HKSTA is the only approved organization to provide the safety training courses in Chinese and English aided with Nepalese and Pakistan language, textbooks and examination for the workers in Hong Kong at present. Besides, it is also the only provider to organize the Gas Welding Safety Course in English.

More than 30 lecturers are hired by the HKSTA for teaching the theory and practical classes of these approved safety training courses. They are all experienced safety professionals recognized by the Labour Department. More than 10,000 people from the major construction companies, quarries, concrete batching plants, government departments, manufacturing industry and shipyards have completed these approved safety training courses (for details, please see the summary). In addition, occupational health & safety seminar, environmental talk and other work skill trainings are regularly organized for the public. For instance, HKSTA has organized a tour of safety talk for the primary schools and secondary schools of the Lutheran Church to improve the awareness on occupational health and safety among the staffs. In March 2002, HKSTA opened its Occupational & Environmental Safety & Health (OESH) Training Workshop at Unit 5, 2/F, Kowloon Plaza, 485 Castle Peak Road, Cheung Sha Wan. Apart from conducting safety training, HKSTA provides safety promotion as well as consultancy services for both public and private sectors. Consultancy services such as risk assessment and establishments of safety management system are provided by a group of safety specialists. Moreover, a production unit is established to design and produce educational and promotional materials such as video tape, CD-Rom, safety promotion banners, pamphlets, etc. and a press unit is also set up for the publication of books and magazines.

HKSTA is committed to developing the safety working culture that will help to make a better society. Series of training courses such as Load Shifting Machine Operation, Marine Safety, Cable Detection, Scaffolding, etc. are designed and tailor-made to cater for the needs of different industries. Moreover, HKSTA co-operates with the Royal Nepalese Consulate General (HK) and Consulate Gen of Pakistan (H.K.) in translating the course materials into Nepalese and Pakistan so as to help the non-English speakers to acquire the safety knowledge.
